創校及發展歷史 Founding and Development History

香港中文大學校友會聯會張煊昌學校(C.U.H.K. F.A.A. Thomas Cheung School)是香港中文大學校友會聯會教育基金會開辦的第一所學校,就像學校大門的創校校碑上所載:「百年之計莫如樹人,化民成俗必由於學」,是一群熱心教育的香港中文大學校友透過興學育才來回饋社會。

C.U.H.K. F.A.A. Thomas Cheung School (TCS) is the first school established by the Education Foundation of the Federation of the Alumni Associations of the CUHK. Echoing the quote stated on the monument at the entrance, “nothing is more important than nurturing talents and enlightenment must begin with education”, a group of CHUK alumni endeavoured to give back and contribute to society through education.

學校位於沙田顯徑邨嘉田苑,於1987年創校。當時,由張煊昌博士任校董會主席,李金鐘先生為首任校監,其後分別由莫秀馨女士及關彩華女士擔任校董會主席兼校監,現任校董會主席兼校監為游應森先生。學校最初分為上、下午校,於1998年轉為全日制,現時班數為26班,全校共有學生約600人。

        Our school, located in Ka Tin Court, Hin Keng Estate, Shatin, was founded in 1987. Back in the day, while Dr. Cheung Huen Cheong Thomas was the chairperson of the School Management Committee, Mr. Lee Kam Chung was the first supervisor of our school. Subsequently, Ms. Mok Sau Hing and Ms. Kwan Choi Wah served as both the chairperson of the Incorporated Management Committee and the supervisor of the school at the same time. The incumbent for both positions is Mr. Yau Ying Sum. At first, our school was operated on a bi-sessional basis and thereafter switched to a whole-day operation in 1998. Currently, there are 26 classes and around 600 students in total.

學校於2006年完成校舍改善工程,加建的教學大樓樓高六層,設有多個特別室:創意科學室、誠明圖書館、音樂室、電腦室、學生活動中心等,地下還有一個有蓋籃球場,不論晴天或雨天,學生都可享受上體育課的樂趣。

        The improvement work for the school premises was completed in 2006, adding a six-storey teaching building with several special rooms including STEM Room, Cheng Ming Library, Music Room, Computer Room and Activities Room, etc. There is also a covered basketball court which allows students to enjoy their Physical Education lessons regardless of weather conditions.

學校亦十分重視不同持分者的意見,因此分別於1999年成立家長教師會,2006年成立法團校董會,以及2007年成立舊生會。學校邀請不同持份者共同參與學校決策,提高學校管理的透明度及問責性,合力為學生的學習和成長謀求更好的發展。

        Our school values the opinions of different stakeholders. Thus, Parent-Teacher Association, Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) and Alumni Association were set up in 1999, 2006 and 2007 respectively. By inviting various stakeholders to jointly participate in school decision-making, the management transparency as well as accountability are raised, and simultaneously seeking better development for students’ learning and growth.

學校一直秉承香港中文大學校訓「博文約禮」精神,用心盡力培育每一位孩子,期望做到「學生為本、愛滿校園、家校攜手、培德育賢」。我們本著有教無類的精神,以學生為中心,提供良好的學習環境,為孩子創設發展的機會,讓每一位同學都能發展潛能,不斷進步。我們亦靈活運用適當的教學策略,激發學生的學習興趣,讓他們掌握不同的學習技巧,發展自學能力,達致終身學習。我們更重視學生品格的培育,灌輸正向的價值觀,使學生懂得自尊自重,愛己及人,成為有識見的良好公民。

學校特色及近年發展 School Features and Recent Development

  • 小一A+課程 

「A+課程」為本校特設的校本課程,為小一學生提供更貼近其心智發展的銜接課程,同時亦為他們創設更具效能的學習平台,在課時運用以至學習內容上均按學生的需要作重新的編排。課時方面,安排學術科目(如中、英、數等科目)在上午進行,下午則為孩子探索藝術領域的時光;課程的學習內容則涵蓋視藝、音樂、體育、戲劇、朗誦等不同的藝術元素,以跨學科的單元形式進行學習。我們期望藉着此課程能讓孩子在學習路上有更廣闊的空間,能經歷更整全、更多元的學習歷程,能發掘學習的樂趣和無限可能。

本年度我們更進一步融合藝術與英語學習的元素,把戲劇課改為英語戲劇課,加入外籍英語老師進行協作。一方面藉由戲劇教育培養學生的多元能力及建立自信,更重要是希望學生能在活潑、有趣的學習環境中,提升他們運用英語的興趣和能力。

Ø  P.1 A+ Programme

“A+ Programme” is our school-based programme particularly designed for P.1 students. With the intention to provide a bridging course that matches their mental development and simultaneously acts as an effective learning platform, re-arrangement of lesson time allocation and teaching contents is done based on students’ needs. In terms of time allocation, lessons of academic subjects such as Chinese, English and Mathematics, etc. are scheduled in the morning while other curriculums related to Arts, covering Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, Drama and Speech, are scheduled in the afternoon and are taught in an interdisciplinary way. We anticipate providing freedom for P.1 students to experience a more holistic and diversified learning path via this programme, enabling them to discover the joy of learning and the infinity of possibility.

This year, we took a step further to merge the elements of Arts and English learning, replacing the Drama lesson with English Drama lesson by engaging Native English Teachers (NET) in classes. On top of cultivating students’ multiple intelligences and building up confidence, we hope their interest and capability of English application could be raised in a lively learning environment.

  • 校本外籍英語老師計劃 

學校獲校董會調撥資源,額外聘請兩位全職及兩位兼職外籍英語老師,連同由教育局提供的一位外籍英語老師,學校現時共有五位外籍英語老師。「校本外籍英語老師計劃」優化了英文科課程:初小會重視「聽和說」,而高小則強化「讀和寫」。學校亦全方位規劃不同層面的英語學習活動,例如:「英語故事及說話訓練班」、「英語強化班」、「小六英語面試班」、小息活動及英語週等,加強學生學習及應用英語的機會。我們相信豐富的英文語境,有利學生的英語學習,學生透過真實的情境應用,與外籍英語老師進行互動,是最能夠令英語有所進步,學習效能才得以提升。

Ø  School-based Native English Teacher (NET) Project

With the deployment of resources approved by the IMC, the school employed two full-time and two part-time NETss. Together with a NET supplied by the Education Bureau, there are a total of five NETs at our school. School-based NET Project could optimize the English curriculum. While attaching importance to “Listening and Speaking” for junior students, reinforcing “Reading and Writing” will be the focus of senior students. There is also all-around planning for organizing diversified English learning activities. For instance, there are “Storytelling and Speaking Training Course”, “English Enrichment Course”, “P.6 English Interview Class”, “Recess Activities” and “English Week”, enhancing learning effectiveness and at the same time providing opportunities to apply what they have learned. We believe an English-rich environment is beneficial to students’
learning. The best way to improve English and increase the learning effectiveness is to interact with NET through the application in real-life situations.

  • 關愛成長

在六年的小學生活中,往往令學生最懷念的是師生之間的感情。舊生們每一次回到母校,都會與老師一起「想當年」,訴說懷念老師對他們無微不至的關愛,讓他們能夠在充滿愛的環境中學習和成長。

關愛學生並不是一句口號、一句標語,而是每一位校內教職員由心出發,照顧每一位學生,用行動表達對學生的愛護。在教師方面,本校於一年級實行雙班主任制,以協助學生更快適應小學生活,與家長保持緊密聯繫。此外,每一位教師都會自選一位學生進行「天使行動計劃」,對該學生進行全年支援及照顧。「飛躍少年」小組老師會透過不同類型的活動陪伴學生成長,每年舉行的「乘風航」活動讓學生能夠挑戰自我,突破自己。

除了由教師作主導外,學生亦會在校內實踐關愛校園,「跳躍飛升學生獎勵計劃」讓學生為自己訂立的目標而努力。「大手攜小手」及「張小天使」計劃則由高年級同學學習照顧初小學生,讓他們從小學習關愛身邊人。除此之外,本校近年更將「關愛」的價值觀融入課程,四年級「社區清潔」及五年級「探訪長者中心」服務活動,學生可嘗試用行動表達對社區及有需要人士的關心,身體力行,用行動表達愛意,將關愛文化由學校延伸到社區。

在各持分者的努力下,本校連續12年獲得「關愛校園」奬勵計劃的「卓越關愛校園」獎,相信本校關愛的文化能永遠繼續延續。

Ø  Care and Growth

During the six-year school life in primary, the teacher-student relationship is always the most memorable thing for students. Every time alumni come back to school, they will always talk about the good old days, looking back upon the teacher’s meticulousness which enabled them to learn and grow in a loving environment.

Caring for the student is not just a slogan, but the action taken by each of the staff at school. Regarding the teaching staff, our school implemented a dual-class teacher policy. Besides speeding up the adaptation to primary school life, it allows class teachers to remain in close contact with parents. Apart from that, each teacher will select one student to carry out the “Angel Mission Project” and provide support and care throughout the year. The teacher-in-charge of the “Youth Accomplishment Programme” will accompany students’ growth via different kinds of activities. Students can challenge themselves and breakthrough in the annual activity, “Adventureship”.

Other than teachers, students will also initiate the practice of a harmonious and caring school. The “Youth Accomplishment Award Scheme” motivates students to fight for their goals. In “Student Mentorship Programme” and “TCS Angel Project”, senior students will learn how to take care of the junior ones, educating them to love and care for the people around them from an early age. In addition, our school merged the value of “Caring” into curriculums. In social services like “P.4 Community Clean-up Programme” and “P.5 Care for the ElderlyNursing Home Visit”, students can
express their love and care towards the community and the needy with actions, extending the caring culture from school to community.

With the efforts of all stakeholders, the school has achieved the “Excellent Caring School Award” for 12 consecutive years. It is believed that the caring culture of our school could be carried on forever.

  • 多元發展及聯課活動

為達至全人發展的目標及照顧學生的不同需要,學校致力為學生提供多元化的學習經歷。學校在課時內及課餘時間均組織了各式各樣的聯課活動,更積極鼓勵學生參加不同課程及活動,以發掘自己的興趣,展現自己的才華。這些活動不僅有助學生的身心健康,培養正面的價值觀,還能學習自律、盡責及與人合作的精神,從而推展正向文化,建立關愛共勉的校園。學校更在不同的學科及智能範疇,開辦專項訓練課程,讓學生的潛能有進一步的發展,如英語戲劇拔尖班、全能小作家、奧數訓練課程、精英運動員培訓、拉丁舞校隊班、HIPHOP校隊班、沙畫藝術校隊班、敲擊樂團、電子管弦樂團等。學生透過代表學校參加比賽及表演作成果展示,從中除了能提升學生的自信,激發其創意外,更能讓學生在舞台上發光發亮,盡展潛能。

學校積極安排學生到香港以外的地區作參觀、研習、學校探訪等交流活動。本校學生的小足跡已遍佈亞洲多個地方,包括東京、九州、沖繩、大阪、首爾、墾丁、宜蘭、北京、上海、西安等。配合各交流地點的特色,更會設定不同主題,讓學生進行考察,如STEM科技、環保及生態保育、傳統歷史、藝術文化等。透個舉辦富主題性的交流遊學活動,不但能使學生認識不同地方的風俗文化,更可提升其探索精神,以增長知識,擴闊視野。

Ø  Diversified Development and Co‐curricular Activities

To achieve the goal of holistic development and to take care of students’ different needs, the school is dedicated to providing a diversified learning experience for students. A wide variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are organized. Students are strongly encouraged to participate, explore their interests and showcase their talents. Not only are these activities conducive to students’ health and cultivation of positive values, but they also promote a positive culture on campus by educating students to be self-disciplined, conscientious and cooperative. Furthermore, specialized training programmes in different subjects and intelligent aspects are organized to further develop students’ potential. Some cases in point are English Drama Class, All-round Writing Class, Olympic Mathematics Class, Elite Athlete Training, Latin Dance Class, Hip Hop Class, Sand Painting Class, Percussion Band and E-Orchestra. By representing the school to participate in competitions and performances, students are able to boost confidence, stimulate creativity and unleash potential.

The school actively arrange overseas exchange activities such as trips, studies and school visits. Our students have already been to many other parts of Asia, including Tokyo, Kyushu, Okinawa, Osaka,
Seoul, Kenting, Yilan, Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an, etc. Based on the characteristics of the exchange venue, themes like STEM technology, environmental protection, ecological conservation, tradition and history, arts and culture will be set for students to study. Throughout the themed exchange programme, the student gets to know more about the local customs and cultures of different places. Students’ adventurousness could be raised and thus gain much knowledge while broadening their horizons.

感恩現在、邁向未來

在過去三十五年,學校一直得以穩步發展,實有賴香港中文大學校友會聯會教育基金會、校監及各位校董對學校的支持,額外調撥資源;家長對學校的信任,充份配合;以及所有教職員對學校的付出,盡心盡力,令張小的學生在充滿愛的環境下成長。2022年,我們迎來三十五周年校慶,以「以愛同行」為校慶主題,與各持分者一同歡度這個喜慶日子,一起「以愛」陪伴孩子們「同行」成長的路。

        感恩現在,邁向未來,「創科教育」和「生命教育」是學校未來銳意發展的方向。學校會秉承校訓「博文約禮」的精神,致力培育孩子成為具識見及負責任的公民。

Retrospect and Prospect

In the past 35 years, our school made steady progress with the help of every party: thanks to the support from the Education Foundation of the Federation of the Alumni Associations of the CUHK, supervisor and school managers, extra resources are deployed to facilitate school development; thanks to the trust from parents, school education policies are able to be run smoothly with full cooperation; thanks to the devotion of all the staff, our students can grow up in a place that is full of love. 2022 is a special year for TCS since it marks our 35th Anniversary. We set “Walk with Love” as the theme of the celebration, inviting each stakeholder to share the joy of this festive occasion. Together, we join our hands to keep accompanying children with love along their pathway of growth.

Looking forward to the future while being grateful for today. “STEM Education” and “Life Education” are the future directions that the school is committed to developing in. Upholding the spirit of the school motto, “Through Learning and Temperance to Virtue”, we will strive to cultivate students to become visionary and responsible citizens.
